Video: That is NOT a Catfish on the End of Your Line

Anglers beware, there be monsters in these waters. One Baton Rouge fisherman and his young daughter got the scare of their lives after kayaking in Louisiana’s Fausse Pointe State Park last Saturday. According to The Times-Picayune, Lance Burgos and his 11-year-old daughter Evan were kayaking with another father-daughter pair on the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin. The group was heading to their fishing spot when they came across a pool noodle with an attached line. The line was unattended, and after seeing the noodle whip back and forth on the surface, the anglers decided to investigate. Burgos, being the closest, began to pull the line in.
At one point Evan reached out to touch the line, but her father quickly advised her to be careful. It was a good thing too, because just shortly after, a large alligator poked its nose above the water. Burgos hurriedly threw the line back in the water and paddled away as fast as his legs could take him.
“I was in a 13-foot Hobie Outback, and that thing had 3 foot of head that was a foot and a half across,” Burgos said.
Alligators are not uncommon in the park, but judging from the size of the reptile’s mouth, it seemed to be a particularly large specimen.
We wonder if Burgos was the only angler to investigate the line. Perhaps it explains why the noodle was unattended in the first place—nobody wants to get that close to an agitated gator.
