Video: Massive Alligator Crashes Golf Game in Florida

It seems that when playing golf in Florida, alligators show up to be more of a hazard than bunkers. This massive alligator, which witnesses placed at between 15 and 16 feet, strolled onto the Buffalo Creek Golf Course in Manatee County last week. According to employees of the golf course, the gator has been an occasional visitor for years, and his slow treks through the course have been the stuff of legends.
“People have heard that he is out here and that is all they want to see, so they will bring spectators to ride so somebody can get a picture,” clerk Wendy Schofield told News 3. “He doesn’t bother anybody and they don’t bother him; he’s like a mascot for the course, which is owned by Manatee County.”
In fact, many golfers come to the course specifically in the hopes of running into the alligator, which employees view as a highlight. It does not have a history of aggression toward humans, but at that size, we would keep a wide berth from it at all times.
The video below was taken by Charlie Helms. At one point, Helms jokingly asks the other man filming the alligator to stand next to it for perspective. Perhaps wisely, the other man declined.
“That is the biggest freaking alligator I’ve ever seen in my life,” Helms said.
