Celebrate International Migratory Bird Day May 12 at Monroe Lake, Indiana

Monroe Lake is offering a full day of fun, family-oriented programs and activities to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 12.
Programs are at the Paynetown State Recreation Area, 4850 S. State Route 446, Bloomington.
Festivities begin at 10 a.m., and activities take place throughout the rest of the day. They include games, crafts, a bird scavenger hunt, migratory bird bingo, a casual shoreline walk to look for migrating ducks and shorebirds, and a geocache challenge with a migratory bird theme.
The day will conclude with a special program at 8:15 p.m. that will explore what enables birds to survive migration. Visitors will learn how birds can fly four minutes per mile for 80 hours straight, and how they gain the human equivalent of 15 pounds of fat each day, and then burn it at a rate of 1.8 pounds per hour.

The standard entrance fee of $5 per in-state vehicle or $7 per out-of-state vehicle applies.
