We all want to see our children find something they love to do that will allow them to grow and thrive. Since the interests of each individual can vary widely, it is important to provide opportunities that cater to every taste. That is where fishing comes into play.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and some of its partners have come together to offer opportunities to teens that will start or keep them fishing. In connection with the Fishing League Worldwide Foundation and The Bass Federation’s Student Angler Federation, the FWC will be providing grants to the tune of $500 from the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation.
The goal of this program is to get kids angling by creating new fishing teams in Florida high schools, as well as building the number of members on current teams. The $500 grant can be used to fulfill a plethora of team needs such as education, clothing, gear, tournament fees, and more. Also part of the program is a conservation venture in collation with the FWC, FLW Foundation and The Bass Federation to further enrich the experience. Although some grants have already been awarded, there is still plenty of funding available for which interested parties should apply online.
It is experiences such as participation on a high school fishing team that can open a lot of future doors for students. Not only is there the pure enjoyment of reeling in a catch, but the possibility of college scholarships exists as well.
We may not know what the future holds for our children, but a future that includes fishing is sure to be bright.
