A fisherman made a pricey discovery off the coast of the Philippines that he did not expect, and it begs the question: Of all the things you stub your toe on in the ocean, why can’t it ever be something like this?
A 34kg pearl was discovered off the coast of the Palawan Island, in the Philippines inside a giant clam shell. The un-named fisherman who discovered this gem was not aware of its eye-watering value and kept the 2-foot-long pearl under his bed as a good luck charm.
The priceless rock measures 1-foot-wide and 2.2 feet long, which crushes the current world’s biggest Pearl of Allah which weighed 6.4kg and is worth $35 million dollars.
This massive pearl has an estimated value of $100 million dollars.
Clams very rarely create pearls, making the discovery extremely rare. Giant clams – such as the one that produced this pearl – can reach 4 feet in length and weigh upwards of 500 pounds.
