Breaking News: Potential New P&Y World-Record Elk!

The Boone and Crockett Club and Pope & Young Club announced in a press release on Friday, that a potential new world-record elk had been taken in Montana by a resident bowhunter. This elk is said to dwarf the previous archery record elk, and may be the biggest elk taken in nearly 50 years. The bull’s antlers are now drying for the required 60 days before the rack’s score can be official, however, Justin Spring, Boone and Crockett’s Director of Big Game Records, is confident in the original green score.
Joe Bell, Pope & Young’s Executive Director, explained the importance of this animal in relation to conservation and wildlife-management programs: “Any game animal taken in an ethical, sportsmanship-like manner is a trophy worth honoring. However, some specimens are remarkable, not only for their size, but how they symbolize successful conservation efforts. The existence of outstanding specimens like this incredible animal is testament that today’s hunters, wildlife professionals, and conservation organizations are achieving tremendous success by practicing sound conservation and wildlife-management programs.”
