Video: Cowboy Lasso’s Bike Thief in Walmart Parking Lot
OutdoorHub Reporters 11.04.16
Robert Borba, of Eagle Point, Oregon, is one of a kind. He’s a real life cowboy and works at a ranch just on the outskirts of town.
Despite spending all his time on the ranch and living his life as a cowboy, just like everyone else, he has to stop at the store every now and then to pick up some items. However, that’s not even an ordinary trip for this cowboy.
Just as Robert arrived to the Walmart, on horseback mind you, he heard a woman yell, “Stop him! Stop him! He stole my bike!” Just then, a man went flying by Robert on the stolen bike. Robert, a champion bull rider, never hesitated, and did what cowboys do best. He took off on his horse, gave his trusty rope a couple swings over his head and lassoed the perp by his ankles.
You can imagine the shock of the would-be bike robber when he turned around to see a cowboy chasing after him. Even more so, getting taken out like a calf in a rodeo roping competition.
What makes this entire story, however, is the 911 call that Robert made after he secured the bike bandit.
In the video below you can hear the 911 call, but it went something like this:
“We got a guy who just stole a bike here at Walmart. I got him roped and tied to a tree,” he said on the call.
“What!?” the operator said.
“I got him roped from a horse and he’s tied to a tree.”
You can hear the surprise in the 911 operators voice, as Robert tells her he tied the thief to a tree. Listen to the audio in the video below:
