The time has come for anglers to put down their fishing rods and start casting votes as the polls have officially opened in the search for WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town. A record 750 towns across the U.S. and Canada have been nominated by proud anglers who think their town is the best place to fish. One town from the U.S. and one town from Canada each receiving the most votes will earn a $25,000 community donation to be used towards fishing-related cause(s), plus a tourism boost as WFN: World Fishing Network, North America’s only 24/7 fishing channel, produces a feature about fishing in their town and broadcasts it on-air and online throughout the year.
People who think they live in WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town in the U.S. or Canada can cast their vote from May 1 at 12:01 a.m. ET to May 31, at 6:00 p.m. ET at www.wfnfishingtown.com. The website automatically directs U.S. and Canadian visitors to the appropriate contest. Supporters are permitted to vote once every six hours and can earn additional votes by referring a friend, listing a business or sharing on Facebook or Twitter. For the official rules, click here.
To help spread the word and encourage voting, WFN is offering a variety of social media tools at the website. The results will be announced in June at ceremonies in the two winning communities emceed by WFN’s Mariko Izumi, host of Hookin’ Up with Mariko Izumi.
“The popularity of WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town is growing every year as we received 50% more nominations this year despite a shorter nominating period,” said Mark Rubinstein, President & CEO of WFN. “It is very clear that there are many towns in the U.S. and Canada that feel they deserve to be named WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town. It’s now up to them to pull together as a community to prove it.”
Last year, Chapleau, ON, and Roscoe, NY, was selected as WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town Canada and U.S. respectively. In all, more than 500 towns across North America were nominated and nearly one million votes were cast. In 2010, WFN ran its inaugural search for Canada’s Ultimate Fishing Town, and Port Alberni, B.C., was the winner.
