Strange Object Dubbed the ‘Muriwai Monster’ Washes Up on Shore

Something really creepy washed up on a New Zealand beach, and nobody knows what to do with it.

It looks like something straight out of those Alien vs. Predator movies. So what the heck is it?

This weird looking object that washed up on a beach in New Zealand is definitely puzzling. The scary object, called “Muriwai Monster”, was discovered by Melissa Doubleday, who snapped a few pics and posted it on Facebook as soon as she made the discovery.

It turns out this mysterious thing is just a piece of driftwood covered in gooseneck barnacles. These barnacles are typically found attached to floating objects in the ocean, especially piers, according to the Australian Museum.

Gooseneck barnacles are considered a rare delicacy in Portugal and Spain, and they apparently can cost more than 100 Euros (US $106) per plate in restaurants! If that’s the case, then this is the mother lode of goose barnacles.
