This May be the Only Taxidermy Library in the Country

Did you know there’s a library in Alaska that allows you to borrow a wide array of taxidermy animals?
That’s right, this library is unlike any other. Sure you can check out books on nature and animals, but why only read about them when you could bring them home with you and observe them as you read.
Located in Anchorage, the Alaska Resources Library and Information Services (ARLIS) allows you to do just that. You can choose from their collection of taxidermy animals, bring them home with you and then return them, just like books.
The library holds over 250,000 titles, print journals, and dozens of research databases devoted to Alaska-centric interests such as fish migration, mining, and the Iditarod. In addition to regular library materials you would expect to find at your local library, ARLIS is mostly known for its taxidermy animals. They can be checked out for 2 weeks at a time and are sent out in clear plastic boxes so they aren’t damaged. All of the animals are, of course, native to Alaska.
There is also a collection of furs and skulls that are available to borrow, completely free of charge.
This sure sounds like our kind of library!
