XTERRA Off-road Triathlon Comes to Farmington, New Mexico, June 2nd

The Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau works with XTERRA American Tour to make the Four Corners Off-Road Triathlon a top choice among endurance athletes. Neil Merrion, Co-Race Director with Shawn Lyle, and participant is an enthusiast. “Farmington Lake is an awesome setting for an off-road race with its pinion and juniper covered hills and mesas surrounding the lake. The water is crystal clear and it’s usually 68 to 72 degrees.”

The race begins with a one-mile swim in Farmington Lake, followed by a 16.5 mile mountain bike ride over part of the famous Road Apple Rally trails and ends with a five-mile run around the lake. The area surrounding Farmington Lake is an excellent location for viewers, says Merrion. “People can watch the entire swim, the start and finish of the bike race, half of the run, both transitions and the finish from there.”

Four Corners Triathlon participants range in age from 15 to 70. There are categories for professionals and physically challenged competitors. There are also relay teams. Participants come from across the United States, as well as New Mexico.

For athletes trained and intrigued, there is complete registration information at the Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau website. Registration closes May 23rd. Others can enjoy the race on the sidelines, morning coffee in hand. The race starts at 7:00 a.m.
