Stunning Drone Video of Fishing in Alaska

Alaska is commonly called “The Last Frontier,” and from experience I can tell you it’s true.
Twenty-five years ago (has it been that long?) I spent a summer as a fishing guide at the spectacular Bristol Bay Lodge in southwest Alaska, and words can’t begin to describe the people, the places, and of course, the fishing. Put plainly, I knew there was a good chance I’d never make enough money to visit one of Alaska’s finest lodges as a paying guest, so my only way to experience it was as a guide.
I apologize for the horrible photo below, but digital photography hadn’t been invented in 1992, so my memories of a summer spent on the rivers of Alaska are found only in my mind and crummy color prints. As I recall, the king salmon I’m holding here from the Togiak River weighed about 60 pounds.

I’ve never seen a video that does a better job of capturing the pure majesty found in The Last Frontier. My favorite scenes are those where the fly anglers hook up in a river packed with salmon – yes, it can be that good!

P.S. If you’re wondering about the lodge’s name, a no-see-um is a tiny biting midge/fly common in Alaska. They can be pests, but it’s a small price to pay for fabulous fishing.
