Video: ‘Deadliest Catch’ Deckhand Nearly Hooked in the Face and Narrowly Avoids Death

There’s a reason Discovery’s ‘Deadliest Catch’ isn’t called “Safest Catch,” and we’re about to show you why.
On a recent episode, Saga deckhand Dean Gribble got a little taste of humble pie after a near death experience while fishing for crab on the Bering Sea.
As Gribble was harvesting a pot, his pot hook got caught on a railing. The winch continued to pull, creating enough tension to bend the 15-pound hook like it was made of Play-Doh. When the hook broke loose, it nearly hooked Gribble in the face, which would have sent him flopping around on deck like a sailfish.
The Saga’s Captain Jake Anderson, who watched it all unfold from a front row seat, put it bluntly, saying, “He almost died. Dean’s face is right next to (the hook.) That would have been endgame right there, done, Dean don’t come back home.”
A scary thought, but fortunately Gribble was able to cheat death and fish another day.
