Alabama Man Shoots 820-Pound Feral Hog from his Front Porch

A small-town homeowner in Samson, Alabama, got a big time surprise when a 820-pound feral hog showed up on his front porch one afternoon.

According to AL.com, Wade Seago knew something was up when the family’s pet schnauzer, Cruiser, started barking outside their home. The Seago’s house sits on 100 acres in the small southern Alabama town, so it’s not at all uncommon for their dog to bark at deer, raccoons or other critters, but this, Wade explained, was different.

As he was about to get up to see what all the fuss was about, Wade heard his daughter let out a scream that told him something was very wrong.

Wade ran to the front of the house where his daughter was looking out the window, and he says he “couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

Outside on the front lawn, maybe 5 yards off the front porch, stood a massive feral hog confused by Cruiser barking and circling it constantly. “Cruiser had this huge hog confused with all of the barking and movement,” Wade said. “It was not a good situation.”

Fearing for the dog’s life, Seago reached for his .38 caliber revolver, which he keeps for home defense, and ran out on the front porch. It took three shots to drop the hog.

“I didn’t think twice about taking down this hog,” Wade concluded. “I’d do it again tomorrow.”

Feral hogs are considered game animals in Alabama. On private land, hunters can legally hunt hogs every day with no restrictions, and with massive pigs such as this one available, it sounds like something to add to your bucket list.
