UPDATE: New York Hunter Who Says He Mistook Woman for a Deer Charged with Second-Degree Manslaughter

UPDATE: The New York hunter who shot a woman after mistaking her for a deer, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter, and a later court date has been set for the end of January.

According to ABC News, Thomas Jadlowski plead not guilty to both charges of manslaughter, and hunting after shooting hours. His bail has reportedly been set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property. Charges of this degree carry a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.

“After firing the shot, hearing a scream and finding Ms. Bilquist, Mr. Jadlowksi immediately called 911,” a press release announcing the indictment reads.

“Today, Mr. Jadlowski is being held accountable for his dangerous and reckless conduct when he shot his neighbor in the dark,” Commissioner Basil Seggos said in a statement. “I commend the work of our ECOs, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson in helping to bring this case to fruition.”

Jadlowski’s next court date is set for January 29.
