On just about any lake, a 40″ – 41″ pike is considered a rather nice trophy, so catching TWO exceeding the 50″ mark within just a few days, is one impressive feat! Enter Trevor Montgomery, the angler who accomplished this tall task by hauling a couple giant northern pike from Tazin Lake in northwestern Saskatchewan earlier this month.
Montgomery landed the first giant on Tuesday July 3rd. That fish measured 51.5″ x 22″.
His personal best northern was around 47″ before wetting a line in Tazin Lake, so this was already the fish of a lifetime for Trevor. 4 days later, however, on the opposite end of the lake, he beat his old record again by hooking into another 51″ x 19″.
“I don’t even know what to say,” Montgomery said. “Wow, is all I can say. Blessed, that’s for dang sure.”
That sort of bewildered feeling can be expected from most folks after landing two beasts like that, but even for somebody who’s been guiding in western Canada for 35 years, this was one glorious moment.
Way to go on catching two incredible fish of a lifetime, Trevor.
Fish on!
