Arizona Game and Fish Commission to Meet May 11

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission’s next regularly scheduled meeting is this Friday, May 11, at the Game and Fish Department headquarters, 5000 W. Carefree Highway, Phoenix (1.5 miles west of I-17). The meeting begins at 8 a.m.
The public can view the meeting either by: (1) attending in person in Phoenix; (2) via live streaming video at Game and Fish regional offices; or, (3) online at www.azgfd.gov/commissioncam. Members of the public may submit Speaker Cards (Blue Cards) if they wish to speak to the commission at the Phoenix meeting or from any regional Game and Fish office. Public comment is not available for those viewing the webcast online.
Items on the agenda include:
- Updates on state and federal legislative issues, including a briefing on the Arizona Natural Resources Protection Act (a potential citizens’ initiative on the November 2012 ballot).
- Request for commission approval of a list of commission-owned properties identified by the Lands Council as no longer meeting their original purposes, for possible future disposal or sale.
- A briefing on the status of the proposed wildlife rehabilitation and education center at the department’s headquarters property.
- A briefing on the administrative processes associated with the issuance, sale and transfer of Special Big Game License Tags, and consideration of potential amendments.
- A briefing on the 2012 elk and pronghorn online draw.
- A presentation on possible remedies for online elk and pronghorn draw applicants who were denied permits as a result of the recent credit card security breach involving a non-department payment processor for VISA and MasterCard.
- A briefing on the department’s analysis of the proposed Grand Canyon Watershed National Monument, and presentation of a draft resolution addressing overarching concerns regarding loss of multiple-use public lands due to special land use designations, including national monuments.
- Briefings on shooting sports, information/education, wildlife recreation, lands/habitat, and law enforcement activities.
- Several consent agenda items.
- Hearings on license revocations for violations of Game and Fish codes and civil assessments for the illegal taking and/or possession of wildlife (time certain at 2 p.m.).
