Beachgoers in Florida were thrown for a loop after a message in a bottle drifted by them, completing a 24 year trek from the waters of Lake Michigan to the waves of Santa Rosa Beach.
According to WJHG, Gary Henrickson, a resident of Santa Rosa Beach, was wading in the water with some friends when they spotted the bottle bobbing next to them. Henrickson apparently scooped it up and took it home to uncork the bottle, revealing a note that smelled like bourbon.
Here’s what was written on it:
“Hello, June 16, 1995, Frankfurt, Michigan, I’ve tossed this bottle into the water to bring joy to anyone who finds it, this whiskey bottle was full a few short hours earlier, if you find this call me, and I’ll buy you a drink.”
Following instructions, Henrickson reached out and ended up connecting with the messenger. Both were in awe to find out the bottle made its way from Lake Michigan all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, and can only guess it traveled down the Mississippi River to reach its final destination.
