Indiana Dunes State Park Offers Wilderness Weekend for Women, June 1-3

Explore the natural and cultural resources in Indiana’s dunes from a woman’s perspective at Indiana Dunes State Park, June 1-3.

Programs will focus on important women in dunes history, beach glass jewelry making, a camping recipe exchange and other activities. Park naturalists also will highlight ways to commune with the outdoors while enjoying the comforts of home.

The weekend begins at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 1, with a Glamorous Campfire Gathering at the park’s campground shelter, and continues on Saturday and Sunday with hikes and talks at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. A Saturday sunset hike starts from the campground shelter at 7:30 p.m.

For information on additional programs and times,  check the park’s interpretive schedule. Some programs and activities are sponsored by Friends of Indiana Dunes, a non-profit volunteer group that supports the park.

The weekend coincides with National Glamping Weekend, which celebrates luxury camping and experiencing the great outdoors with many advanced amenities.

“The nice thing about glamping is it allows folks who don’t want to rough it the opportunity to enjoy the semi-wild and appreciate the resources of a place like the dunes,” said interpretive naturalist Jessica Rosier.
