Message in a Bottle Leads to Miraculous Rescue of Arroyo Seco Hikers Stranded on 40-Foot Waterfall

A group of Arroyo Seco hikers were stranded at the top of a 40-foot waterfall in California until a last-ditch effort to make contact with somebody led to their miraculous rescue.

Curtis Whitson, his 13-year-old son and girlfriend, Krystal Ramirez, were spending Father’s Day weekend backpacking the Arroyo Seco River. The ultimate goal was to reach the Arroyo Seco narrows, float through the water shoot and down the waterfall before linking up with another group of friends to float a few more miles to a campground.

Sounds pretty awesome, right? And with Whitson making around 20 backpacking trips to the central California coastal forest every summer, there shouldn’t be any bumps or roadblocks to slow them down.

But, in typical fashion, Mother Nature seemed to have other arrangements..

“It was just the water level that caught us by surprise and we thought we had that under control,” Curtis said according to GMA.
