NEW Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm: World’s Highest Capacity Micro-Compact

Springfield Armory appears to have done it again! They have been teasing all of us now for close to 1 month on social media about how they were going to drop a NEW “class leading firearm” today, and now it is finally here. The Springfield Armory Hellcat 9mm, the world’s highest capacity micro-compact, can come out and take a bow. This pistol is able to hold more rounds of 9mm in a frame that is only 1″ wide than any other firearm on the market.

The SIG Sauer P365 and P365XL have been the darling of the firearm world with their high capacity and ultra-small size, but Springfield Armory looks to have usurped them from that throne with the Hellcat. It is currently being offered in a standard model as well as a Hellcat OSP (Optical Sight Pistol) that will be accepting of micro red dots. The rest of the information that completes the NEW Hellcat can be read below as presented by Springfield Armory:

  • 3” Hammer Forged Steel Barrel w/ Melonite® Finish & 1:10″ Twist Rate
  • Billet Machined Slide w/ Melonite® Finish (OSP Model available HC9319BOSP)
  • Black Polymer Frame w/ Adaptive Grip Texture™
  • U-Dot™ Sights w/ Tritium/Luminescent Front & Tactical Rack Rear
  • Dual Captive Recoil Spring w/ Full Length Guide Rod

  • Overall Length: 6″ | Overall Width: 1″
  • Standard MSRP: $569 | OSP MSRP: $599

While the ability to add a red dot to the Hellcat OSP is truly a striking feature the other most eye-catching trait about the Hellcat is its new Adaptive Grip Texture™ that looks to replace the former GripZone that we all loved/hated so much. With a microscopic design of different shaped pyramids you get a strong tactile feel to the firearm. As if the option of a red dot and Custom Shop quality stippling were not enough Springfield Armory has poured over the Hellcat with quite a few more subtle upgrades as well. All of those can be read below as presented by Springfield Armory:

  • External Extractor: Reliably ejects spent casings round after round
  • Melonite Treated Internals: Critical internal parts are Melonite treated for exceptional strength and corrosion resistance
  • High-Hand External Beavertail: Positions your hand closer to the bore axis to control muzzle flip and mitigate recoil
  • Standard Accessory Rail: Customize your EDC with lights and lasers that fit on a standard accessory rail

  • Forward Index Point: A forward index point with Adaptive Grip Texture is molded into the frame
  • Flat Trigger: A flat trigger body with nickel boron coated trigger group creates a consistent trigger pull
  • Undercut Trigger Guard: The undercut trigger guard creates more comfortable grip and greater control while firing
  • Reversible Magazine Release: The single sided magazine release can be reversed for left handed shooters

While the original XDS and XDS Mod.2 by Springfield Armory were some of their best-selling and most popular firearms this NEW Hellcat looks to take over that role as flagship concealed carry pistol for the brand. For all of our readers out there who are big concealed carry advocates like myself, what do you think of the Hellcat and Hellcat OSP pistols? Are they something that you would be willing to try and carry yourself? Let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
