This Elderly Couple Was Completely Oblivious to the Bear on Their Front Porch

It’s the start of another week, and perhaps your head is in a fog or you’re just feeling a case of the ‘Mondays’ today as you try and recover from the weekend. We’ve all been there, but please try to have better situational awareness than the elderly couple in this video who didn’t even recognize there was a BEAR on the front porch when they walked outside.

The footage was captured by a home security camera, which shows what appears to be a color-phase black bear making an unexpected house call to a home near the Angeles National Forest in Palmdale, California. The bear slowly makes its way towards the entrance of the home, only to freeze in its tracks when a couple walks out of the house.

According to media reports, there was a bit of a dust-up off camera after the bear followed the couple to their car, but the man only sustained minor injuries to his lower leg.

California’s black bear population is at about 25,000 to 30,000, with most living in mountain areas above 3,000 feet, according to what the state’s Department of Fish and Wildlife calls conservative estimates. In 1982, the statewide bear population was estimated at between 10,000 and 15,000.

Less than 10 percent of the state’s black bear population lives in the central western and southwestern California region, according to agency estimates. About half of the population resides in an area north and west of the Sierra Nevada.
