Max Michel, Jr., decisively won the Single-Stack Division at this weekend’s United States Practical Shooting Association Mississippi State Championships. Held in Byram, Miss., this match allowed Michel to return to the site of his earliest accomplishments.
“When I was 15, I won my first major match then backed it up a week later by winning the title here,” Michel said. “I think the last time I was able to shoot here was in 2001. Winning this match again after so long was pretty exciting for me.”
The multiple-time Open Division champion is shooting a limited schedule in Single-Stack to test his new signature SIG SAUER 1911 Max pistol.
“The team at SIG SAUER and I have learned a lot from the matches,” Michel said. “This is one of the most competition-ready guns I have ever shot straight from the box. All you need to add is ammunition.”
Michel’s score of 1178.3347 points was 283.3 points ahead of the runner up. Michel won nine of 10 stages outright.
Next up for Michel is a return to the Open Division at the Gothenburg Open in Gothenburg, Sweden, in June.
