Hydration to keep you Silent But Deadly: The Best Quiet Water Bottles for Hunting

The last thing you need on any hunt is to make more noise (except for maybe when you’re ready to take the shot). Seasoned hunters take painstaking steps to remain as invisible as possible when out in the field hunting and this goes right down to the type of clothing you wear, the type of hardware you choose to mount on your rifle, and the materials that your backpack or game bag might be made out of. One thing a lot of hunters probably don’t take into account is hydration sources. While plastic water bottles are cheap and convenient they also make a ton of noise that can be heard from great distances by the highly sensitive ears of deer. Since these strange sounds are likely to scare off game, you’ll want to gear up with the quietest water bottle possible, and today we’ll showcase a handful of the best quiet water bottles that you can use while hunting to stay silent and deadly from your treestand or blind.

How much water should I bring with me on a hunt?

You’ll want to bring more water than you think you will need. That goes for just about anything but while you’re out hunting, you’ll be subjected to the elements just as harshly as if you were out hiking so it’s a good idea to bring at least 15-20 ounces with you for shorter hunts and 1 liter or more if you’ll be out all day.

If I pee out of my deer stand won't that scare the deer off?

Deer are repelled by many smells that come off of human beings but our urine is surprisingly not one of them. Holding it won’t help you at all as deer are often curious by the smell of human urine and will sometimes come to investigate it rather than run away from it. If you’re ultra concerned about the smell of your urine scaring your deer off, you can always bring a small bottle of doe urine with you and leave a few drops at your pit stop to ensure you’re covering your tracks.

Why are quiet water bottles good for hunting?

Deer have excellent hearing compared to humans and while things like snapping twigs, and errant coughs are surefire ways to scare a whitetail away, your waterbottle clanging against your game bag or belt buckle is also sure to do the same thing. Deer can hear subtle noise like this from up to a half-mile away and if you’re carrying multiple metal objects like shooting sticks or a monopod your plastic water bottle can make a significant amount of noise if it taps it or runs into it. Having a soft-sided water bottle that won’t make any noise is just another layer of good hunting practice that can make you more successful.
