Hydration to keep you Silent But Deadly: The Best Quiet Water Bottles for Hunting
1. CamelBak 17 oz Mil-Spec Quick Stow Flask
“Hydrate or Die.” Words to live by from the folks at CamelBak and a line also featured on their Mil-Spec Quick Stow Flask. The Quick Stow flask is made from Polyurethane and is extremely durable. The Quick Stow flask may feature a fairly low capacity for a water bottle but in terms of hunting it can be folded down for quick stowage when headed back to the deer camp and best of all the polyurethane shell and plastic twist cap make almost no noise. The Flask also features a handy hanging loop for quick drying after use.
2. Nomader Collapsible Water Bottle
The Nomander Collapsable water bottle has a lot of the same great features as the CamelBak but adds an additional 5 ounces of water capacity to it. The water bottle features a convenient carry handle that doubles as a packing strap for when the water bottle is in its collapsed position. The best part about the Nomander is that it features a completely silent twist cap instead of a folding or snapping spout making it even quieter to drink from when you’re stalking prey.
3. Platypus Ultralight Collapsible SoftBottle
It may look like a glorified zip-loc bag but the Platypus SoftBottle is actually an ultra-compact and flexible water bottle that can hold up to an entire Liter of water. 6. YETI Bottle Sling for Rambler Bottles
If you’ve already got your favorite YETI Rambler water bottle and don’t want to get something else just for hunting, you can get away with using one of YETI’s Bottle Slings. Their Bottle Slings are made from soft fabric that will help keep your rambler from making unwanted noise while you’re moving around. In addition, the bottle sling features a flat back design which makes it less prone to rolling while you’re carrying it over your shoulder. The Sling can also be used to attach your rambler to a backpack.
How much water should I bring with me on a hunt?
You’ll want to bring more water than you think you will need. That goes for just about anything but while you’re out hunting, you’ll be subjected to the elements just as harshly as if you were out hiking so it’s a good idea to bring at least 15-20 ounces with you for shorter hunts and 1 liter or more if you’ll be out all day.
If I pee out of my deer stand won't that scare the deer off?
Deer are repelled by many smells that come off of human beings but our urine is surprisingly not one of them. Holding it won’t help you at all as deer are often curious by the smell of human urine and will sometimes come to investigate it rather than run away from it. If you’re ultra concerned about the smell of your urine scaring your deer off, you can always bring a small bottle of doe urine with you and leave a few drops at your pit stop to ensure you’re covering your tracks.
Why are quiet water bottles good for hunting?
Deer have excellent hearing compared to humans and while things like snapping twigs, and errant coughs are surefire ways to scare a whitetail away, your waterbottle clanging against your game bag or belt buckle is also sure to do the same thing. Deer can hear subtle noise like this from up to a half-mile away and if you’re carrying multiple metal objects like shooting sticks or a monopod your plastic water bottle can make a significant amount of noise if it taps it or runs into it. Having a soft-sided water bottle that won’t make any noise is just another layer of good hunting practice that can make you more successful.
