This month gives Hoosiers and their neighbors the chance to celebrate the Lake Michigan coast’s importance, not only to northwest Indiana but the entire state.
Coastal Awareness Month, as proclaimed by Gov. Mitch Daniels, features events focusing on stars, sounds, water and celebration in general that will occur in various coastal area cities throughout the month. The full lineup, which starts on June 2, is at coastmonth.IN.gov.
Lake Michigan is a source of recreation, drinking water, industrial resources and many other uses. The 45 miles of shoreline in Indiana is the most diverse in the Great Lakes Region. This month provides a chance to learn and appreciate it more.
The DNR’s Lake Michigan Coastal Program and its partners orchestrate Coastal Awareness Month.
