The British are Coming – and They’re Bringing Friends

Officials within the Association are reporting that an contingency of international long range high power rifle shooters are expected to land on the shores of Lake Erie later this summer. Representatives from INTERPOL member nations have confirmed that four eight-man teams will arrive in Camp Perry, Ohio to compete in the America Match.

First held in 2002, the America Match is an international long range high power competition shot every two years. Taking fifteen shots at 300, 600, 900 and 1000 yards from the prone position. Last held at the Connaught range in Ontario, Canada, this is the first time the competition will take place at Camp Perry.

“We have 21 competitors coming over from Great Britain alone,” said NRA National Rifle Manager Sherri Judd. “There will be teams from Japan, Australia and Canada. What a great way to wrap up the National Championships in Camp Perry.”

With Great Britain winning three out of the five matches, the American Team is primed to take back the title on their own turf. In addition to the bragging rights, they’re also competing for the medals displayed above.

“The two gentleman are Jim Thompson of Canada and Alan Warner of the United States,” explained Judd. “Jim is the one kneeling. When the medals arrived, well, we were just thrilled with the results. I’m sure the competitors will be just as please to receive them.”

The only question that remains is who will take home the gold.
