Yampa River State Park Opens River Access after Flooding Danger Ends

   06.30.11

HAYDEN, Colo. – Yampa River State Park has re-opened river access throughout the park because flows in the Yampa River have dropped from the record setting run-off in the Yampa Valley. Access to the river within the State Park was closed in early June because of the high river flows and safety concerns.

Although the water levels have dropped, Yampa River State Park Rangers are cautioning all boaters to be extremely careful because water levels are still almost three times the normal flow for this time of year.

Experienced whitewater boaters should have a great time, but those with less experience should look to the professionals and use a registered guide service.

The facilities at the Yampa River Headquarters Campground re-opened on June 25 and reservations will be accepted for the rest of the summer. For more information please check the web site. www.parks.state.co.us/Parks/Yampa
