Colorado’s Banner Lakes Youth Waterfowl Day August 6th

DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife is holding a youth waterfowl hunt at Banner Lakes State Wildlife Area in Keenesburg on Aug. 6. This morning-long skills clinic will introduce youth and a mentor to the fundamentals of getting out in the field and bagging some birds.
Skills taught at the seminar include:
- Duck and goose calling
- Decoying strategies
- Waterfowl habitats
- Water safety
- Basic shotgun shooting techniques
- Shooting techniques from duck blinds and layout blinds
“This course is a great introduction to hunting for youth,” said Chris Mettenbrink, district wildlife manager, Keenesburg. “We provide a safe, fun, hands-on environment for kids and their mentors to experience the treasured tradition of waterfowl hunting. We hope they’ll leave with the confidence to go out and try the sport and become as passionate about duck and goose hunting as we are!”

WHERE: Banner Lakes State Wildlife Area, 26,000 Hwy 52 (4 miles east of Hudson), Keenesburg

Spaces are limited to 60 kids so register early. Attendees should dress for outdoor comfort, including hat, sunscreen, and insect repellant. Drinking water will be provided.
