Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Receives MILO award

JACKSON – As a result of the agency’s active involvement in the mission of the Office of Homeland Security, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) has earned the Mississippi Information Liaison Officer (MILO) award.
MILO is a branch of the Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN), a national secure web-based portal for information sharing and collaboration between federal, state, local, tribal and international partners engaged in the homeland security mission.
MILO users can interact within their network or reach out to other states to gather information and intelligence, request background checks or report suspicious activity. Mississippi currently has 106 active information officers within the state. Thirty-six of these are officers with MDWFP and are a part of the agency’s Search and Rescue (SAR) Team. MDWFP is the largest contributor of manpower within the HSIN.
The HSIN was used extensively by the MDWFP SAR team during recent tornados and Mississippi River flooding details for the distribution of information for SAR mission response. Lt. Col. Tim Brinkley, Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement, accepted the award on behalf of the agency at the 1st annual MILO Conference in Choctaw MS. “Even though we are a natural resource agency; as law enforcement officials we are concerned about public safety and committed to the ideals of the homeland security mission. We are very proud of this award”, Brinkley said.
