Section of Snowmobile Trail 4/9 in Montmorency County to be Rerouted

The Department of Natural Resources announced today that a section of snowmobile trail in Montmorency County, Trail 4/9, will be rerouted. This section of trail is located south of Atlanta. The proposed trail reroute will move snowmobiles off County Road 487/Morningstar Lake Road and onto Airport Road/South Airport Road, and then on to existing state land to connect with the current snowmobile route.

The purpose of this reroute is to reduce snowmobile-vehicle encounters, thereby increasing the safety for all motorized traffic in the area. The reroute will be completed prior to the start of the 2011-2012 snowmobile season. If you have questions regarding this reroute, please contact the Atlanta Field Office at 989-785-4251.

Information regarding the snowmobile program may be found on the DNR website at www.michigan.gov/snowmobiling, under Outdoor Recreation.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state’s natural and cultural resources for current and future generations. For more information, go to www.michigan.gov/dnr.
