STAUNTON, VA, August 2, 2011 — Each year the Rockingham County Quality Deer Management Association in Rockingham County, Virginia hosts The Ultimate Youth Hunt in Folks Run, Virginia. Youths wishing to participate must complete an essay application and 12 young folks are selected from the pool. Each selected hunter is outfitted from HEAD to TOE by the Rockingham Co-op and the local QDMA Chapter. They are taken out to a private range to get time in behind the gun. Each youth is provided with professional gun safety and shooting instruction and has an opportunity to fire on the range.
This past year four lucky candidates were selected to be filmed by JKT TV. “We believe in passing on the heritage and education that has been handed down from generation to generation through the outdoor sports of hunting and fishing. And taking a kid out hunting is a great way to do exactly that. Neither Buck or myself have any children and being able to get together with kids on their first hunt is a true blessing to us,” commented Max Rowe, executive producer of JKT TV
Britny Polk (age 14) was one of those chosen for hunt last September and to be filmed. Buck Buchanan was with her and her guide and captured the pure moment of when Britny took her first whitetail deer, which was a buck. Britny did not have a ton of experience behind the gun as many hunters do, but she took to heart what she was taught during the field day they had in August and the instructions Buck and her guide gave her and connected on a 186-yard shot!
