Austin, TX — Texas Game Wardens will this morning honor officers for life-saving water and snow rescues and enforcement cases, including the much-publicized “cold case boat accident investigation” that involved the Dec. 2010 discovery of a boat involved in a deadly accident in 2002. Awards will be presented 10 a.m. today, Aug. 15 at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department headquarters, 4200 Smith School Road in Austin.
This year’s TPWD Law Enforcement Awards include a new category to recognize officers from outside TPWD certified by the department to enforce water safety. The first-ever 2011 Marine Safety Enforcement Officer of the Year is City of Austin Lake Patrol Unit Officer Jeff Joseph.
This award recognizes officers from outside agencies certified by the department to enforce the Water Safety Act.
Joseph’s professionalism and dedication to the marine safety enforcement officer program has earned him the respect of his peers and the boating public. Joseph has been instrumental in promoting the Austin Police Auxiliary Unit. He shares his boating safety expertise through training fellow officers.
Other award categories include Life Saving, Outdoor Opportunities, Kayakers Rescue on Nueces River, Snow Rescues, SAFE Boat Team, Water Rescue, and other awards.
