In this article, we are going to explore the Browning X-Bolt Pro Tungsten chambered in .300 WinMag, a great bolt action rifle available in 11 calibers.
During a cold and wintery hunt last winter, we packed out to Raton, New Mexico on a last minute “fill your freezer” cow elk hunt. This late season big game hunting is becoming a staple for us at OutdoorHub. This year, we aren’t waiting until December for our freezer hunt, in just one short week we are heading to South Dakota to hunt Bison. The Bison hunt is something I’m interested in for many reasons but, one huge benefit is the 400-500 pounds of meat the Bison will yield.
The food prices across the country are becoming interesting and with a family of 5, I should be well set on red meat for next year. Of course, with such a large animal as the target for that hunt, I’m going to hunt with a rifle chambered in .300 Win Mag which is just the round we used during the cow elk hunt last winter. The rifle used on that hunt was the Browning X-Bolt Pro Tungsten edition. This X-Bolt is a moderately priced, well built rifle available in 11 calibers.
Browning has placed the moniker of “semi-custom rifle” on this rifle line and the reason they do so is because of many custom finishes and features available directly off of the production line. Two of the main features that fall in to the “semi-custom rifle” category are the true carbon fiber stock, which reduces weight considerably while also enhancing rigidity.
The nBrowning X-Bolt Pro Tungsten edition rifle was put through some seriously aggressive weather when we had it out in New Mexico. The temperature was in the low teens and snow was whipping. It held zero and battled the elements with us to deliver an accurate shot at 200+ yards while walking away without issue.
