Doug Koenig Wins Masters International Shooting Championship

BARRY, Illinois (August 7, 2011) – Doug Koenig won the Masters International Shooting Championship at PASA Park in Barry, Illinois for an unprecedented eighteenth time. This was Koenig’s fourth major title of the 2011 competitive shooting season and his thirteenth straight Masters Championship.
Koenig’s victory was impressive with strong showings in each of the events. In the Handgun Precision event, Koenig fired a score of 37. At the Handgun Long Range event, Koenig’s score was 41. Koenig’s time at the Handgun Action event was 22.05. Koenig said that “the Masters calls for skills that I rarely use in other matches. The match calls for a broad range of pistol skills and I enjoy the course of fire. Everyone ought to give the Masters a try.”
Koenig brought his is twelve year old son, Trevor, to the 2011 championship. Trevor Koenig took the Sub-Junior title with a score of 22 at the Handgun Precision event; a score of 42 at the Handgun Long Range event; and a time of 36.25 at the Handgun Action event. The Sub-Junior events have slightly different courses of fire than the main championship events. When asked about his reaction to shooting with his famous Dad at a major championship, Trevor said “that he really enjoyed the course of fire at the Masters and he had a lot of fun.” Trevor, like his Dad, was a repeat champion – having won in 2010.
The Masters International Shooting Championship calls for a wide range of marksmanship skills. A shooter must demonstrate “bullseye” skills, speed shooting, and metallic silhouette proficiency. Competitors compete at a speed event that undergoes periodic changes in the course of fire in order to add a fresh flavor to the event. The tournament tests every facet of a shooter’s handgun skills. And, given the broad range of events at the match, equipment is of the utmost importance. Koenig said that “his equipment gets the job done everywhere and the Masters is no exception.”
This was Koenig’s fourth victory of the season. Koenig won the National Action Pistol Championship (Bianchi Cup) in May, was a member of the winning pro team at the Sportsman’s Team Challenge in June, he won the European Bianchi Cup in July, and has now won his eighteenth Masters Championship.
Koenig has won national and world championships in pistol events, shotgun events, and rifle events. A professional shooter, Koenig has dominated competitive pistol shooting for the last fifteen years. Koenig has won eighteen Masters International Championships, three World Speed Shooting Championships, an IPSC World Championship, three World Action Pistol Championships (holds World Record Score), fourteen Sportsman’s Team Challenge Championships, a World All-Around Championship, and thirteen National Action Pistol Championships (Bianchi Cup).
