Spirit Lake, Iowa will be playing host for a week-long celebration of the 75th Anniversary for Berkley Fishing. It was 1936 when Berkley Bedell, a teenager attending high school, started hand tying flies at home and selling them to anglers. From those meager beginnings, Bedell built his company. Now 75 years later, Berkley, a part of the Pure Fishing, is one of the leading fishing tackle manufacturers in the world.
The party begins Monday, June 11, with a 75th Anniversary 5K run/walk. The festivities conclude on Friday, June 15th with a Pure Fishing facility tour. All events are open to the public.
Registration for the 5K will be at Fisherman’s Factory Outlet. Gift bags are available for the first 150 participants as well as drawings for additional prizes after the event. As part of the opening-day festivities there will be a watermelon feed for all participants.
Tune in to the popular radio station KUOO and its Get Up and Go morning radio show for a live broadcast Friday, June 15th featuring Berkley founder Berkley Bedell, fishing legend Hank Parker and many other Berkley coworkers. Friday morning from 9am – 11am all media and retirees are welcome to tour the facility.
The general public can come view what makes Berkley operate with open tours of the factory that afternoon beginning at 1 pm and closing at 6 pm. As part of the factory tours, visitors will hear from Berkley’s “experts as they lead discussions on how a fish thinks, the “Creation of PowerBait®” and the “Wonderful World of Fishing Line.”
