Join Cherry Creek State Park in celebrating Lake Appreciation Day on Saturday, July 21 for a day of fun in the sun! Sign-up for one of a number of cool volunteer projects from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A free lunch will be provided. Then, stay for an afternoon of excitement. There will be boat rides, canoe rides, archery and educational programs from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will also be a kids’ fishing clinic, a fly fishing clinic and a prize raffle.
All volunteers will receive free admission, but individuals and groups volunteering must register in advance by calling Karen Ebersole at 303-690-1166, ext. 6566. Everyone should dress appropriately for the morning’s volunteer activities – closed-toed shoes, gloves, clothes for working, sun block, bug spray, and a water bottle.
Projects will include; shoreline clean-up (saving fish, birds, and wildlife by removing dangerous fishing line, and other items that may harm or kill wildlife); Russian olive removal (which has become a noxious weed and takes three times the water of our native species); and the removal of Salt Cedar, another noxious weed at Cherry Creek.
