Gold Tip’s Levi Morgan has done it again, claiming another victory at the third leg of the IBO Triple Crown in Marengo, Ohio (7/12-7/15). Morgan’s win also clinched the 2012 IBO National Triple Crown Championship; the Triple Crown is the highest combined score from three designated National IBO shoots. Morgan has now won the prestigious IBO Triple Crown an incredible three years in a row.
At the IBO outdoor 3-D event, Pro Division contestants shoot one round of 30 targets on Saturday and one round of 10 targets on Sunday from unknown distances that range from 6 yards to over 50 yards. The Pro archer with the highest final score after Sunday’s round is named the overall event champion.
Long time Gold Tip shooter, Gary Studt, led the pack after day one with a solid performance. Morgan, down by two points after day one, climbed back into the lead on day two of the IBO event and never relinquished his position, ultimately winning by four points. Morgan and Studt ended up 1-2 at the close of the event. For the 3-D event, Morgan shot Gold Tip Ultralight Pro X-cutters, while Studt shot Gold Tip Ultralight Pro Series 22.
“It can be tough when you know you’ve got the overall point lead going into a shoot like this. You start to think about the mistakes you might make and how it’ll affect the entire outcome,” said Morgan. “But I’ve learned I just need to focus on winning that particular shoot on that given weekend and the rest will come together on its own. In this case, I knew if I just focused on winning this third leg of the Triple Crown I’d guarantee myself the Championship win.”
In a change of procedure from previous years in which National Champions weren’t announced until the World Championships later in August, Morgan was presented with the National Championship award immediately following the ceremony for the third leg of the Triple Crown win. The change gives Morgan immediate recognition as the IBO National Champion.
“We at Gold Tip are very proud to be a part of Levi’s ongoing success, whether he is shooting game or competing in tournaments, “ said Tom Zelenovic, CEO of Gold Tip. “ I am looking forward to watching the World-class archer take his tournament-tested mental toughness to the field this season on Gold Tip’s Name the Game TV show on the Sportsman Channel.”
