Video: Eight-foot, 220-pound Catfish Caught in Slovakia
OutdoorHub Reporters 07.31.13
Anglers in Domasa, Slovakia could hardly hold the monstrous eight-foot catfish they drew from the water. According to KHOU, it took them an hour to bring the fish to shore. While this is certainly an astounding achievement, wels catfish have been known to exceed 200 pounds and specimens twice this weight have been discovered. Still, it is quite rare for the species to grow longer than seven feet.

Surprisingly the wels catfish is not the largest of its kind, that honor goes to the Mekong giant catfish.
The Mekong can only be found in the basin of the same name in southeast Asia and is considered the world’s largest freshwater fish. According to Guinness Book of World Records, the largest freshwater fish ever caught was a nine-foot, 646-pound Mekong from Thailand in 2005.
The Slovakian catfish was released back into the water after a short photo opportunity.
