Video: Plucky Elk Confronts Bison Trio

Elk herds and bison often frequent the same habitat, and in areas like Yellowstone National Park, the two species can be found migrating together. So it’s not a big surprise to see these two large animals occasionally duke it out. The young elk in the video below, however, may have bitten off more than he can chew after challenging three bison to a staring contest. The video was posted by photographer Bradley Orsted on Facebook earlier this year, showing a spike elk confronting what appears to be three female bison. One of the bison eventually returns a short charge from the elk with one of her own, and an audible clap is heard as the two touch horns.
