Video: Is This “Spider Car” the Ultimate ATV?
OutdoorHub Reporters 08.05.15
Meet the Swincar, an all-terrain vehicle that has been described by some as a “mechanical spider on wheels.” Despite that description, the Swincar only has four wheels and looks more like a traditional buggy than a spider. However, each wheel has its own electric hub motor and suspension, using spider-like limbs for unparalleled maneuverability.
“Swincar E-Spider was designed to bring new sensations thanks to its exceptional agility off-road. Its revolutionary kinematic allows tilt shift, tilt correction and most extreme cross axles,” stated its creators on YouTube. “The Electric motors on the 4 wheel drive and steer with independent suspension makes possible the most difficult crossing safely and comfy. Battery life is adaptable to allow several hours of ride with hundreds of meters of elevation.”
According to Gizmag, the Swincar is the brainchild of French designers Pascal Rambaud, Jerome Arsac, and Thierry James. The three have been working on ATV designs for about eight years and the Swincar E-spider is one of their latest products. The vehicle may not be for sale just yet, but its innovative construction holds plenty of promise.
