Video: Rare Footage of a Moose Tossing an Antler

Loose antlers, just like a loose tooth, can be a nuisance. That’s why animals with deciduous antlers can’t wait to shake them off as soon as possible. Plenty of hunters have caught deer shedding their antlers on trail cam, but it’s much rarer to see moose do the same. Maybe it’s because moose have inflated sense of dignity, or maybe it’s because they are just overly shy.
This video was shot near Laramie, Wyoming last November when Kim Eberhart and her family sighted a bull moose outside their cabin.
“The moose shook his head and his paddle fell off right in front of us!” she told National Geographic. ““It was amazing.”
What’s strange is that just like deer, the moose seemed to scare itself a little bit when the antler flew off. Maybe it was just a happy little jump of joy. We wonder if there’s such a thing as an antler fairy?
