Throwback Thursday Video: Fred Bear Hunts a Polar Bear with a Longbow

Remember when Fred Bear said these famous words at the end of the iconic song “Fred Bear?”:
“If some of our teenage thrill seekers really want to go out and get a thrill, let them go up into the north west and let them tangle with a grizzly bear or polar bear or brown bear and get that effect that will cleanse the soul.“
Well, we found an old hunting video of Fred actually tangling with a polar bear, and it’s pure gold!
What’s more impressive? Fred Bear shooting a polar bear – the largest of all bear species – with a traditional longbow? Or, the fact that he’s able to accurately estimate the distance of the shot in that arctic environment. . . any bowhunter knows exactly what I’m talking about.
You have to show respect for the best that ever did it, and when it comes to bowhunting, Fred was simply the man!
