We’ve talked a lot about ways to help prevent tick bites, and why it’s so important to check yourself after each outdoor adventure. Now, let’s put your eyes to the “poppy seed muffin” test and see how good you are at spotting these tiny critters.
The folks over at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention wanted to raise awareness at how difficult it can be to spot the little suckers, so they developed a little experiment that sent Twitter into an uproar. . .
Sorry in advance if you love poppy seed muffins, because I’m about to ruin them for you forever.
“Ticks can be the size of a poppy seed,” the CDC tweeted earlier this month. “Can you spot all 5 ticks in this photo?”

It’s pretty tough to see the ticks in the photo on the left, but if you’re brave enough, you can easily see them in the zoomed-in-photo on the right.
And the poppy seed muffin was forever ruined. . .
Some folks on Twitter were so upset by the tweet, they swore off their favorite breakfast treat for life:
“Poppy seeds will never crunch quite the same,” one user responded.
A few days later, the CDC was back on Twitter again, this time to “apologize” for their message:
Sorry we ticked some of you off! Don’t let a tick bite ruin your summer. Protect yourself: https://t.co/zT2cMR2kKW.
