Tim Kennedy Clarifies His Statements on Gun Control
OutdoorHub Reporters 05.21.18
For those who may have missed it, Tim Kennedy, a Ranger, sniper, Special Forces Operator, UFC badass, and all around gun-nut was recently on a podcast with Lance Armstrong when he made a comment about “gun control” that was taken out of context and wrongfully turned some gun rights advocates against him.
The conversation was part of a podcast (which we highly recommend you give a listen to) in which Lance Armstrong picked the brain of a man who, without any fear, runs toward situations that most folks would instinctively run away from – a true modern-day warrior to his core.
In that conversation, Kennedy dropped a line that caused gun rights supporters to spiral. Several even started calling Tim a “Fudd,” on social media which is slang for someone who typically only owns guns for hunting or shotgun sports and does not truly believe in the true premise of the second amendment.
So, what was it that upset so many people?
Well, like it happens so often, it was a comment that was taken way out of context referring to Kennedy supporting the age restriction on young adult’s access to firearms.
By the time the podcast was heard by the firearm community, 2A supporters had a whole lot to say about Kennedy’s statements.
So, in an effort to clear up his position, the former Green Beret penned this social media post to anyone who questions his stance on the Second Amendment:
“My position to be perfectly clear is that I support the Second Amendment. I’ve sworn to protect the Constitution to fight for it against foreign and domestic enemies. I’m a gun owner. I’m a businessman that teaches people how to shoot and how to use weapons to protect themselves.
I believe a well regulated militia specifically refers to a law-abiding citizen and that citizens should have the means of overthrowing a corrupt government if necessary. I am pro- Second Amendment in every single imaginable way. I have fought for it in more ways than anyone I know. I have the courage to have a conversation with anyone, especially those that disagree with me and not attack them.
If we can’t discuss ideas, particularly ones that challenge our beliefs, we are cowards. I welcome gun control discussion, even though I am adamantly against it, because we cannot solve the problems we do have in our society without those conversations.
I’ll be at the NRA convention next weekend supporting an organization I firmly believe in and support, and welcome discussion with any of you in attendance or even protesting it.
I believe the right to bear arms is not only a constitutional right but a natural right, and that a well-regulated militia is an individual law abiding American, standing ready to protect Home and property, and in the worst case, against a tyrannical government.
Thank you.“
Very well said, Tim. And thank YOU for all that you have done for this great nation.
