Video: Bull Elk Wallowing in Mud Slips into His Best Wallow Suit for the Rut

You might have heard of elk wallowing before, but you probably have never witnessed one of these mud baths up close like this. This video is just awesome all around! Not only is the quality top-notch, but it displays a stud bull elk partaking in a pre-rut bath in a muddy wallow pit.

Bull elk typically give themselves these muddy baths prior to and during the rut in an effort to attract a mate. Wallow pits may look dirty, but the ladies (cow elk) can’t resist it when bulls show up to the party smelling like mud and urine.

You have to appreciate capturing behavior like this on camera. Elk are always very triggered and on high alert for predators, so seeing wallowing action like this is really cool!
