When preparing for the high-octane role as John Wick, there’s no room for cutting corners – which is why Keanu Reeves’ tactical training for John Wick 3 needed to be one-hundred percent spot-on.
While getting tuned-up for another run at playing the expert assassin with an affinity for dogs, Keanu once again lined himself up with the best martial arts teachers available, and one of the top firearms instructor and tactical experts out there, Mr. Taran Butler.
Butler guided Reeves along during his training for the first two Wick films, so it was only fitting to go back and learn even more, this time with tips from former Navy SEAL, Shawn Ryan of Vigilance Elite:
Did you take anything away from watching?
There were some great tactical tips there, and although you likely won’t be playing an assassin on the big screen anytime soon, it’s still super interesting to hear a man of Shawn Ryan’s caliber talk weapons training.
And did you happen to catch that important moment around the ’10:50′ mark?
Keanu sort of stops and catches himself while going through a drill, when his instructor tells him to walk towards him with his rifle shouldered. “I feel really weird pointing a gun at you,” Reeves says, demonstrating his awareness for firearm safety.
Even with the bolt removed and safety checked, Reeves still clearly felt uneasy about handling his firearm in that manner – which is EXACTLY how it should feel!
Keep up the good work guys!
