[SHOT Show 2020] Umarex Air Javelin Arrow Gun

At the 2020 SHOT Show Range Day, I swung by the Umarex display and shot their Air Javelin, which is an arrow gun that fires short, hollow arrows suitable for target practice or dispatching small game.

It uses large 88-gram CO2 cartridges to propel the arrows, and you can get about 30 shots per cartridge. They’re not regulated, so your arrows will fly faster (300+ fps) with a new cartridge and that speed will fall off towards the end of those 30 shots.

It’s a lot of fun to shoot the Air Javelin, and sound & recoil are almost nonexistent. It would be a great way to get young folks interested in shooting — or to dispatch that pesky raccoon without waking up the neighbors.

The butt stock is of the AR adjustable-length style, so you can make it comfortable for kids and adults. I found it plenty accurate in a steady breeze at 25-30 yards.

There’s a charging handle (picture a bolt handle on a semi-auto rifle), which you pull back to cock before each shot. It can be installed on the right or left side, depending on your preference.

The Air Javelin will retail for $169 and will include 3 of the special hollow arrows. Expected availability is in early 2020.
