Dick’s Sporting Goods Plans to Remove Hunting Gear from 440 Stores

Dick’s Sporting Goods made headlines again last week, and the news did not receive a friendly response from hunters or outdoor enthusiasts as a whole. DSG announced last week their plan to wipe out the hunting department from 440 of their stores this year, meaning you will need to find your hunting supplies and firearms elsewhere – assuming you weren’t already among the thousands who said you would never step foot inside the department store again..
Dick’s Sporting Goods is estimating it will cost them $48.8 Million to re-model and restructure 440 of their stores, which includes removing inventory, bringing in new inventory, and paying their employees to get all this accomplished.
This move follows along similar footsteps of other big companies trying to distance themselves from the firearms industry, but Dick’s Sporting Goods appears to be standing out from the crowd with these drastic measures.
Some only have access to large-chain stores in regards to their firearm purchases, but hopefully most gun buyers will begin to acknowledge their smaller, local gun shops.
With winter slowly diminishing and spring hunting seasons ramping up, it’s very possible Dick’s Sporting Goods could feel a bigger impact to their wallet than they apparently believe.
