Those we regard as heroes are often champions of adversity. Some of the most difficult times this world has seen were born from World War Two. These heroes have worked their way into our literature, television, movies, and hearts. We’ve even worked them into our fashion choices. If you’re looking for rugged glasses with a 1940s twist, Oakley Standard Issue is now offering special editions of three models of glasses, with designs based on WWII nose art, called the American Heritage Collection.

“We’re excited to introduce the latest addition to our American Heritage collection paying tribute to the iconic aircraft art from the 1940s,” said Erick Poston, Senior Director of Oakley SI. “This method of self-expression allowed these men to showcase their individuality and give their planes a persona to not only keep them safe, but also give them some reminders of home.”
American Heritage Collection: Drop Point, Gascan, and Holbrook
The entire collection is based on the nose art used by military pilots and aircrews of the 1940s. True to the look of the time, the new glasses have a Matte Olive, O Matter frames. The Prizm Grey lenses offer the same impact protection as Oakley’s standard models, meeting the standards of ANSI Z87.1. The entire American Heritage Collection can also accept prescription lenses and Asia fit is available.
The lenses are HDPolarized to cut down on glare and the optional Iridium coating helps with light transmission. The Unobtanium nose pads grip your nose to keep the glasses on your face and keep you comfortable all day. The Oakley icon accents are made of metal. The lens material is Plutonite, which is capable of blocking 100% of UVA/UVB/UVC and blue light up to 400 nm. Keep your eyes safe!
