Smith & Wesson Announces .22 WMR M&P22 MAGNUM Pistol
Nicolas Lenze 07.12.23
There are two approaches to finding the best caliber for your needs. There’s the big and slow philosophy, like the hard-hitting .45 ACP, where the mass of the bullet gives you less velocity, as well as less capacity. The other option is to have a smaller bullet with high velocities and more capacity. Lately, the market has been trending toward the latter. Calibers like the 30 Super Carry, 5.7×28, and .22 WMR are continuing to gain popularity. Smith & Wesson has already tackled two of these calibers with their M&P5.7 and their Shield Plus in 30SC. Now, they’ve added the third, with the M&P22 MAGNUM pistol chambered for .22 WMR.

Smith & Wesson Announces .22 WMR M&P22 MAGNUM Pistol
Due to the small round, the M&P22 MAGNUM has a capacity of 33 rounds. The optics-ready slide comes with iron sights, which include a fiber optic front sight. There is also a frame-mounted thumb safety and a standard 1913 rail up front. The pistol is gas-operated and uses Smith & Wesson’s TEMPO barrel, which doesn’t allow the slide to unlock until the bullet has passed the gas port. Like the Equalizer, the primer is ignited by an internal hammer.
